Summer Camp
Camp Amazing Kids 2011 was a BLAST!!!
Check out all the cool places we went and fun stuff we did!
WEEK 1 & 2 TAKING THE FOOD CHALLENGE: Campers decorated and ate cupcake creations at Smallcakes. Planned, budgeted and shopped for an afternoon snack before visiting the Overland Park Farmer’s Market (there was a band and some dancing too!). Took a day trip to Beverlin’s Little Piece of Paradise working farm where they met all the animals, got to see where eggs, milk, fruits and vegetables come from and finished it all off with a hayride! Enjoyed a visit from a local chef where they made Banana Cream French Toast, Mango Salsa and Plantain Tacos “Iron Chef Style”! Visited The Berry Patch where we picked berries, picnicked and then made our own fresh smoothies! Campers may have also put on some goggles and shower caps for a back yard food fight:)!
WEEK 3 & 4 THE CREATIVE ADVANTAGE: Campers took in SNOOPY! At Theatre for Young America, created their own tie dye shirts and socks, competed in “So You Think You Can Dance”, enjoyed a visit from TLC cards where their artwork was turned into professional card sets that can be purchased by family and friends for years to come, enjoyed making clay creations on pottery wheels, and making birdhouses “Hammer Heads” style!
WEEK 5 & 6 GOING FOR THE GOAL: Campers survived “Survivor”, rolled out the GIANT slip-n-slide and lathered up for some slippery fun, visited Emerald City Gymnastics, competed in “The Amazing Race”, played all the sports we could at Inside 68 Sports, and finished it off with a trip to the Sprint College Basketball Experience!
WEEK 7 & 8 TO INVENTIONS AND BEYOND: Cheered each other on in “Minute to Win It”, made rubber band race cars with Mad Science, made our own fizzing pop bottle geysers, braved “Fear Factor”, cooked up some crazy stuff at Science City Test Kitchen, and make rockets with Mad Science!
WEEK 9 & 10 WONDROUS EXPLORERS AND ADVENTURES: Campers started off with a mysterious game of Brown Bag BINGO, visited Picasso’s Exotic Aquarium, created unique frozen yogurt creations at Peach Wave, had lunch delivered by train at Fritz’s Restaurant, welcomed the Kansas City Zoo’s own ZOOmobile full of amphibians, and finished up with a trip to see the BIG cats at Cedar Grove Feline Sanctuary!
Even after all those adventures we managed to see Kung Fu Panda 2, Judy Moody, Cars 2, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, The Zookeeper and Smurfs at the movies, cool off weekly on Kids R Kids own Splash Pad, jump into Blue Valley Rec Pools once a week and finish off every Friday with an icy treat when the Kona Ice truck visited!!!
We can’t wait to see what exciting new camp is heading our way for 2012!!!
Watch our website for a sneak peak after the holidays!
